President’s Monthly Message

May 2018

Cari Fratelli e Sorelle di Cellini,

March Madness flowed into to April due to all the nor’easters. However, there is a little rest time in April and for me a vacation in May. I will be going to Italy in mid-May and I think that will work out well while I am President. I will bring back my experience to you.

During April we had a couple of events. Bingo was successful and was a little loud this time as everyone was having a lot of fun – what we want in an event. Thanks again Gina Lombardo. Sal Squillante took care of the gamblers and outlet shoppers (hopefully with winnings from gambling) with his trip to the Sands Casino in Bethlehem, PA. I understand there were a few winners and a good time.

The $100 state raffle tickets are done – thanks to Jim Prinzevalli for handling it. However, if anyone still wants one let me know and I will be able to obtain it from the Grand Lodge chairperson.

We had four students sponsored for the Student Summit. They are: Anthony Pallisco (a Cellini member); Adam Robinson (a Cellini member); Michael Duffy (family is Cellini member) and Christina Marciano (parents are Cellini members). Based on Vice Chairs Mary Modica and Grace Ferrara it was a great time and the kids loved it. The Student Summit is part of the Culture & Education Committee of the Grand Lodge. If you need information on this Mary and Grace can help you.

On April 16, I was very honored to be named Chairman of the District II Presidents. We are in DII by being located in Nassau County. There are 14 lodges in Nassau. These 14 lodges meet the third Monday of the month to bring to the table what each lodge is doing. But more importantly we discuss ‘best practices’ – ideas that one lodge is using that another may want to try to be more successful. After all we all work together towards a common goal and work together to make the New York State Grand Lodge and the Order stronger.

I would like to wish a Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers. May 13 is your day, so allow yourself to enjoy.

Memorial Day is May 28. Memorial Day is an American holiday, observed on the last Monday of May, honoring the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. Please remember those that have perished to make us free and safe. I will be away for the Memorial Day parade that is held on Saturday in New Hyde Park, so I need to have someone march with the Cellini banner. Please get in touch with me if you would like to march and we can get a group to show our support in the community.

The delegates of our lodge go upstate to the annual New York State OSIA Convention on May 31. Here we represent our lodge at the state meetings and vote for those positions that are open. We also form bonds with other people and lodges that we work with during the year.

Not much is going on with Cellini events in May, however you should make sure your student family member fills out the Cellini scholarship applications by early May (see April Newsletter) and you should be working on finding kings and queens. See the newsletter for the application process.

For those Christians, the Queen of May is Jesus’ Mom, Mary. Many devotions are done in Her honor during this month. With the weather so volatile in March and April let’s hope spring really blooms in May so all can enjoy outdoor activities. La primavera!

Quando l’amico chiede, non v’è domani. – When a friend asks, there is no tomorrow.

God Bless you and your family, God Bless our ancestors and heritage and God Bless America!

Thank you very much,

Mark A. Ventimiglia
